Homes in Pittsburg
Pittsburg grew up as a coal port, a fishing town and then a steel town, and the blocks around Old Town still hold early twentieth-century bungalows, some dating to the years when homes were built for steel plant workers. Bungalows of that age are usually wood-framed on raised foundations with crawl spaces.
After Camp Stoneman closed in 1954, its land was added to the city for schools, shops and housing. The newest building is in the southwest hills, where San Marco and neighboring subdivisions have spacious two-story stucco and stone homes with two and three-car garages and views over the Delta. Homes of that age usually sit on slabs, with the internet entry point often in the garage.
Incorporated in 1903 as Black Diamond and renamed Pittsburg in 1911, the city grew with Columbia Steel, which opened in 1910. Camp Stoneman operated from 1942 to 1954, and its land later became neighborhoods.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Old Town bungalows on raised foundations
A crawl space is the easiest path for new cable. We run Cat6 under the floor to access points at the front and back of the house, and to a desk if you work from home.
Spacious two-story homes in the southwest hills
A two-story house of that size has dead spots at the far corners and upstairs. We wire ceiling access points on both floors through the attic and interior walls.
View decks and yards facing the Delta
Stucco walls keep indoor Wi-Fi from reaching outside. A weatherproof outdoor access point, wired over a single cable, covers the deck and yard, and we can add security cameras on the same network.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Pittsburg
Can you run Ethernet under the floor of an Old Town Pittsburg bungalow?
Usually. Bungalows of that age are typically on raised foundations, and a crawl space is the easiest path for new cable. We run Cat6 under the floor to access points at the front and back, and to a desk if you work from home.
Why are there dead spots in my two-story San Marco home?
A spacious two-story house has far corners and upstairs rooms that one router in the garage cannot reach. Where there is attic access, we wire ceiling access points on both floors through the attic and interior walls, then tune roaming between them.
Can I get Wi-Fi and cameras on a deck facing the Delta?
Yes. Stucco walls keep indoor Wi-Fi from reaching outside, so the deck needs its own weatherproof access point, wired over a single cable. Security cameras go on the same network, each on its own cable back to the switch.
