Homes in Richmond

Richmond's housing spans more than a century. Point Richmond, where the Santa Fe set its terminus in 1900, is a historic district divided by a ridge, with Victorian houses that look out over the bay. The population jumped from 23,000 in 1940 to more than 100,000 during the war, and Atchison Village, built in 1941 for shipyard workers, survives as 450 units in wood duplexes and fourplexes owned by its residents.

Older houses across the city are usually on raised foundations, often with plaster or stucco walls. On the shoreline, Marina Bay replaced a Kaiser shipyard starting in the late 1980s, and Brickyard Cove has condominiums and newer homes terraced into the hills.

The Santa Fe Railroad reached Point Richmond in 1900, Standard Oil built its refinery in 1901, and the city incorporated in 1905. Four Kaiser shipyards made it a boomtown during World War II.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Attached units in duplexes and fourplexes

Shared walls leave few cable paths, and we stay out of your neighbor's side. We work through the attic or crawl space of your unit only and place one or two wired access points.

Point Richmond homes terraced into the hills

Houses terraced into a hillside need coverage on each floor. We find a route between levels for Cat6 and mount an access point per floor, plus one outside for decks.

Waterfront condos with many neighboring networks

Dense buildings mean heavy interference and walls that stop signal. We use in-wall access points on existing cable where it tests well, and tune channels to avoid neighboring networks.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Richmond

Can you install wired Wi-Fi in an Atchison Village unit?

Usually, yes. In duplexes and fourplexes, shared walls leave few cable paths, so we stay within your unit and work through its attic or crawl space where it has one. One or two wired access points are typically what a unit of that kind needs.

How do you cover a Point Richmond house on a hillside?

Floor by floor. Houses terraced into a hillside need their own coverage on each level. We find a route between floors for Cat6 and mount an access point per floor, plus one outdoors if you spend time on a deck.

Why does my Wi-Fi drop in a Brickyard Cove condo?

Dense buildings mean heavy interference from neighboring networks, plus walls that stop signal. If your unit has existing cable that tests well, we put in-wall access points on it, and we tune channels so your network avoids the ones around you.
