Homes in Brisbane

Brisbane's old town climbs the lower slopes of San Bruno Mountain from Visitacion Avenue. Much of it dates from the Depression, when about four hundred homes were built, many by their owners with help from neighbors. The result is small houses on steep streets, no two alike, often added onto over the decades.

The Northeast Ridge, between the mountain park and Bayshore Boulevard, is the newer side of town. It holds townhomes and condominiums in planned developments such as Viewpoint at the Ridge and Altamar, plus larger houses in the Landmark development. Sierra Point, out on the bay, is offices rather than homes.

Platted in 1908 as Visitacion City beside the new Bayshore Cutoff rail line, the tract barely sold until the 1930s, when Depression-era families built their own homes. Brisbane incorporated in 1961.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Owner-built houses rarely follow a standard plan

Additions, half-levels and odd framing mean cable routes are different in every Brisbane cottage. We trace a path through whatever attic and crawl space exists and place wired access points where the layout needs them.

Steep lots put rooms on stacked levels

A house that climbs the hill may have three short floors. Signal from one router weakens through each of them, so we wire an access point per level and tune roaming so devices switch cleanly.

Ridge townhomes share walls with neighbors

On the Northeast Ridge, attached homes mean crowded channels and little attic of your own. We use in-wall or ceiling access points on wired runs and set channels around the networks next door.

  • Brisbane Lagoon: The lagoon east of town formed when the causeway carrying U.S. 101 was built across the bay shore.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Brisbane

Can you run Ethernet through an owner-built Brisbane cottage?

Usually, but every one is different. Additions, half-levels and odd framing mean there is no standard route. We trace a path through whatever attic and crawl space exists and place wired access points where the layout needs them.

Why does my Wi-Fi drop between floors in a Brisbane hillside house?

A house that climbs the hill may have several short floors, and signal from one router weakens through each of them. We wire an access point per level and tune roaming so your devices switch cleanly as you move.

How do you handle Wi-Fi in a Northeast Ridge townhome?

Attached homes mean crowded channels and little attic of your own. We use in-wall or ceiling access points on wired runs inside your unit, then set the channels around the networks next door so yours is not competing with them.
