Homes in South San Francisco
South San Francisco was planned around 1890 as a factory town, with a residential district laid out beside the industrial one. The downtown core along Grand Avenue is the oldest part. After World War II the city turned to housing, and new subdivisions spread across the slopes west of El Camino Real, among them Buri Buri, Winston Manor, Sunshine Gardens and Serra Highlands, mostly single-family houses in mid-century styles.
Westborough, on the higher slopes near Interstate 280, came later, with townhouses and apartments going up from the 1960s and views of the bay from many streets. East of Highway 101 the city is industrial complexes, biotech and office parks rather than homes, a legacy of the factory town and of Genentech's arrival in 1976.
Meatpacker Gustavus Swift proposed the town in 1888 as an industrial suburb, and it incorporated in 1908. After World War II, tracts like Buri Buri and Sunshine Gardens turned the slopes west of El Camino into neighborhoods.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Westborough townhouses share walls with neighbors
Attached homes limit where cable can go and fill the air with neighboring networks. We use in-wall and ceiling access points on wired runs within your unit, then tune channels around the neighbors.
Postwar tract houses with the modem in the garage
In Buri Buri and Sunshine Gardens, service often enters at the garage and never reaches the back bedrooms well. Cat6 to a central ceiling access point fixes that at the source.
Downtown houses built close to each other
Near Grand Avenue, older houses tend to sit close together and the channels are crowded. Wired access points at modest power give steadier coverage than a mesh kit hopping from room to room.

Questions about Wi-Fi in South San Francisco
Where can cable go in a Westborough townhouse?
Within your own unit. Attached homes limit where cable can run and fill the air with neighboring networks. We use in-wall and ceiling access points on wired runs inside the unit, then tune channels around the neighbors.
Why does Wi-Fi never reach the back bedrooms in my Buri Buri house?
Service often enters at the garage in these postwar tract houses, so the router starts at the wrong end. We run Cat6 to a central ceiling access point, which fixes the problem at the source.
Is mesh or wired better for an older house near Grand Avenue?
Wired, usually. Older houses near Grand Avenue tend to sit close together and the channels are crowded. Wired access points at modest power give steadier coverage than a mesh kit hopping from room to room.
