Homes in Menlo Park

Menlo Park grew outward from its 1863 railroad station, and the housing changes block by block. The Willows is an eclectic older neighborhood that includes Stanford Gardens, a 1950 tract that was one of Joseph Eichler's first subdivisions, with open plans, glass walls and heated concrete floors. Suburban Park and Lorelei Manor, in the Flood Park Triangle, hold smaller single-story houses from the early 1950s, some with open-beam ceilings.

Belle Haven sits at lower elevation near the bay. At the other end of town, Sharon Heights was developed in the 1960s on a 600-acre former estate in the southwestern hills, with access from Sand Hill Road. Just over half of the city's homes are owner-occupied.

Menlo Park grew around a railroad station opened in 1863. Army engineers paved its first streets for Camp Fremont during World War I, and the city incorporated for good in 1927.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Early Eichlers have radiant-heated slab floors

In the Stanford Gardens Eichlers you cannot cut into a slab that has heating pipes in it, and there is no attic above. We route cable outside in conduit and use in-wall access points instead.

Single-story postwar ranches are attic-friendly

Where a single-story postwar house has an attic over the whole plan, we drop Cat6 to ceiling access points with very little visible work. Open-beam houses near Flood Park get short exterior runs instead.

Newer builds often hide unused wiring

Recent houses commonly have a structured wiring panel that nobody finished setting up. We test each run, label it, and build a tidy rack with wired access points on every floor.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Menlo Park

Can you wire a Stanford Gardens Eichler without cutting the slab?

Yes, and we would not cut it. The slab has heating pipes in it and there is no attic above. We route cable outside in conduit and use in-wall access points instead of going through the floor or ceiling.

Is it easy to add Ethernet to a single-story Menlo Park ranch?

Often, when there is an attic over the whole plan. In that case we drop Cat6 to ceiling access points with very little visible work. Open-beam houses near Flood Park have no such space, so they get short exterior runs instead.

My newer house has a wiring panel nobody set up. Can you use it?

Usually. Recent houses commonly have a structured wiring panel that was never finished. We test each run, label it, and build a tidy rack, then put wired access points on every floor using the cable that passes.
