Homes in Redwood City
Redwood City incorporated in 1867, the first city in the county to do so, and its housing covers every era since. Its named neighborhoods include Downtown, Stambaugh Heller, Centennial and Mount Carmel. There are also postwar tracts, among them three of Joseph Eichler's earliest: Atherwood, finished in 1950, then Fairwood in 1953 and Sequoia Meadow a year later, all modest three-bedroom houses.
The city stretches from the bay toward the Santa Cruz Mountains, through neighborhoods such as Farm Hill and Edgewood. Redwood Shores, built from the 1960s on filled salt-evaporation ponds, is a planned community of houses, townhomes, condominiums and apartments.
Redwood City grew up as a port shipping lumber, became the county seat in 1856 and incorporated in 1867, the first city in San Mateo County. Redwood Shores followed on reclaimed land in the 1960s.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Older houses near downtown have dense walls
Plaster walls, common in the oldest houses, tend to cut Wi-Fi range sharply. We run Cat6 through the crawl space or attic to access points in the rooms that matter, instead of relying on one router.
Early Eichlers leave no hidden cable route
Eichlers like those in Atherwood, Fairwood and Sequoia Meadow typically have open post-and-beam ceilings and no attic. We use short exterior conduit runs and in-wall access points to cover them without changing how the house looks.
Townhomes in Redwood Shores share walls
Attached homes mean neighboring networks on both sides and floors stacked above the modem. We wire an access point on each level and tune channels around the units next door.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Redwood City
Why does one router not cover my older Redwood City house?
Plaster walls, common in the oldest houses, tend to cut Wi-Fi range sharply. We run Cat6 through the crawl space or attic, where the house has them, to access points in the rooms that matter, instead of relying on one router.
Can an Atherwood or Fairwood Eichler get hardwired access points?
Yes. Eichlers like these typically have open post-and-beam ceilings and no attic, so we use short exterior conduit runs and in-wall access points. That covers the house without changing how it looks inside.
How do you fix Wi-Fi in a Redwood Shores townhome?
Attached homes mean neighboring networks on both sides and floors stacked above the modem. We wire an access point on each level and tune the channels around the units next door, so each floor has its own strong signal.
