Homes in Milpitas

Milpitas had about 800 people in 1950. Then Ford built its assembly plant, and tract housing followed through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Sunnyhills, which opened in 1956, was one of the first planned integrated neighborhoods in the country. Tract houses of that era tend to be single-story, usually with a shallow attic over a long floor plan.

Most neighborhoods lie between Interstates 880 and 680, with more housing east of 680 below the undeveloped hills. The newest homes are around the BART station that opened in 2020, where a 2008 transit area plan has led to nearly 7,000 approved housing units, most of them multifamily. In attached homes like these the internet line often comes in at garage level.

Milpitas incorporated in 1954 to avoid annexation by San Jose. The Ford plant built the following year set off decades of home building, and after it closed in 1984 the building reopened as the Great Mall in 1994.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Townhomes where the internet enters downstairs

When the internet enters on the ground floor, the top floor of a multi-story townhome gets very little. We run cable up through the home and place a wired access point on each level.

Single-story tract homes from the Ford years

These houses are simple to wire well. We pull Cat6 across the attic to one or two ceiling access points, powered over the cable, and retire the extender plugged in down the hall.

Home offices that need a wired connection

Video calls and large uploads are steadier on a cable than on Wi-Fi. We add Ethernet drops at the desk, tidy the equipment into a small rack, and keep work and guest traffic separate.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Milpitas

Why is the top floor of my Milpitas townhome so slow?

Most likely because the internet comes in downstairs. In attached homes here the line often enters at garage level, and the signal fades with every floor above it. We run cable up through the home and place a wired access point on each level.

Is a single-story Milpitas tract house easy to wire?

Usually, yes. Tract houses of that era tend to be single-story with a shallow attic over a long floor plan. If yours has that attic, we pull Cat6 across it to one or two ceiling access points powered over the cable, and the plug-in extender can go.

Can you add a wired connection for a home office in Milpitas?

Yes. Video calls and big uploads hold up better on a cable than on Wi-Fi. We add Ethernet drops at the desk, tidy the equipment into a small rack, and set up the network so that work traffic and guest traffic are kept apart.
