Homes in Fremont

Fremont was assembled from five towns, and postwar subdivisions followed. Glenmoor Gardens, the city's largest subdivision at nearly 1,900 homes, was built in the 1950s and 1960s as tracts of ranch-style houses, and Cabrillo Park dates from the same years. Ranch houses of this kind usually have long floor plans, low roofs and an attached garage, which is often where the internet line comes in.

Niles, laid out in 1888 as eight blocks, still has a historic downtown. The Mission San Jose district has larger single-family homes built from the 1970s through the 1990s, often in a Mission or Mediterranean style. Warm Springs, where a BART station opened in 2017, has a mix of single-family homes, condos and apartments.

Fremont incorporated in 1956 by joining Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission San Jose and Warm Springs. Tract building was already under way, and the population more than doubled between 1960 and 1970.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Ranch homes with the router stuck in the garage

In a long single-story house the garage is about the worst place to broadcast from. We run Cat6 through the attic to ceiling access points near the family room and the far bedrooms.

Larger Mission San Jose homes need several access points

Bigger houses, often with stucco walls and tile roofs, need more than one access point indoors and separate coverage outside. We wire each floor and add outdoor access points for the patio and yard.

Newer condos and homes may already have cable

Recent construction is commonly prewired with Ethernet to a panel. We test every run, label it, and connect access points and your home office to wiring you already paid for.

Around Fremont

  • Mission San José: The mission was founded in 1797. The 1868 earthquake shattered its church, and a reconstruction was completed in 1985.
  • Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum: The museum in the Niles district screens silent films, many shot locally when a studio operated there from 1912 to 1916.
  • Central Park and Lake Elizabeth: The park and its lake are among the city's best-known public places, along with Mission Peak, a popular hiking spot.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Fremont

Why does my Glenmoor ranch house lose Wi-Fi in the back bedrooms?

Usually because of where the router sits. Ranch houses of this kind tend to have long floor plans, and the internet line often comes in at the garage. We run Cat6 through the attic, where there is one, to ceiling access points near the family room and far bedrooms.

How many access points does a large Mission San Jose home need?

It depends on the size and layout, but more than one. Bigger houses, often with stucco walls and tile roofs, need coverage indoors and separate coverage outside. We wire each floor and add outdoor access points for the patio and yard.

Is the Ethernet in my newer Fremont home worth using?

Usually, once it has been tested. Recent construction is commonly prewired with Ethernet to a panel that was never set up. We test every run, label it, and connect access points and your home office to the cable that is already there.
