Homes in Morgan Hill

Morgan Hill went from about 5,600 people in 1970 to more than 17,000 in 1980, and the city has paced new housing since voters passed Measure E in 1977. The result is a valley floor of tract neighborhoods built in batches from the 1970s onward, mostly one and two-story single-family homes, about seven in ten of them owner-occupied.

The hills are different. Jackson Oaks and Holiday Lake Estates are hillside neighborhoods where homes look out over Anderson Lake, and houses listed there commonly date from the 1970s. Hillside homes of that period often have vaulted ceilings and big view windows, and some sit on an acre or more. Larger parcels may also have a barn, workshop or second unit.

Southern Pacific built a station here in 1898 and the city incorporated in 1906 on land subdivided from Hiram Morgan Hill's ranch. Fast growth came in the 1970s, which prompted the growth controls of 1977.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Vaulted ceilings in the hillside homes

A vaulted great room has no attic above it, so the usual ceiling route is gone. We use in-wall access points and route cable through the parts of the house that do have attic or crawl space.

Barns, shops and second units on acreage

Out-buildings on larger parcels are often too far for any signal from the house. We trench cable where the ground allows, and use a point-to-point wireless bridge when it does not.

Backyards, patios and pools in daily use

South County weather keeps people outside for much of the year. We mount outdoor access points under the eaves so the patio and pool get the same network as the living room.

  • Anderson Lake: The reservoir is a recreation area with boating, and trails follow Coyote Creek below it.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Morgan Hill

Where do access points go in a Morgan Hill home with vaulted ceilings?

Usually in the wall, not the ceiling. A vaulted great room has no attic above it, so the normal ceiling route is not there. We use in-wall access points and bring the cable through parts of the house that do have an attic or crawl space.

Can you get internet to a barn or workshop on a Morgan Hill parcel?

Yes. Outbuildings on larger parcels are often too far for any signal from the house. We trench cable to them where the ground allows, and use a point-to-point wireless bridge when it does not, then put an access point inside the building.

How do I get reliable patio and pool Wi-Fi in Morgan Hill?

Add an outdoor access point. Indoor units lose most of their signal on the way through the exterior wall. We mount outdoor access points under the eaves, wired back to your network, so the patio and pool are on the same Wi-Fi as the living room.
