Homes in Saratoga

The flat part of Saratoga is ranch-house country. The Golden Triangle, bounded by Saratoga Avenue, Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and Cox Avenue, is mostly four-bedroom ranch homes on quarter-acre lots, built as the town urbanized after World War II. Ranch homes like these are usually long, single-story houses with attics, and a quarter acre leaves room for a pool or a detached structure.

Elsewhere the lots get bigger. Parker Ranch has one-acre minimums, and the foothills carry on a tradition that began when wealthy San Franciscans came here to build hillside homes overlooking the valley. Hillside properties of that size often have houses on several levels, and sometimes a guest house.

Saratoga began in the 1850s around a sawmill and toll road, then turned to orchards and country estates. It incorporated in 1956, under the slogan "Keep it rural," mostly to avoid annexation by San Jose.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Four bedrooms a long way from the router

In a Golden Triangle ranch the bedroom wing can be a long way from where the internet comes in. We cross the attic with Cat6 and put a ceiling access point at each end.

Pools and patios on quarter-acre lots

Exterior walls, often stucco, keep most of the indoor signal indoors. We add an outdoor access point facing the yard so the pool, patio and outdoor kitchen are properly covered.

Foothill estates with several buildings

A main house, guest house and garage on a slope each need their own connection. We link them with buried cable or a wireless bridge and manage everything as one network.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Saratoga

Why is the Wi-Fi poor in the bedroom wing of my Golden Triangle ranch?

Usually distance. These ranch homes are long, single-story houses, and the bedroom wing can be a long way from where the internet comes in. Where there is an attic, we cross it with Cat6 and put a ceiling access point at each end of the house.

Can I get Wi-Fi by the pool on a quarter-acre Saratoga lot?

Yes, with an access point made for outdoors. Exterior walls, often stucco, hold most of the indoor signal inside. We add an outdoor access point facing the yard and wire it back to the house, so the pool and patio are properly covered.

How do you connect a guest house on a Saratoga hillside property?

With its own link back to the main house. Hillside properties often have houses on several levels and sometimes a guest house, and each building needs a connection. We use buried cable or a wireless bridge between them and manage everything as one network.
