Homes in Blackhawk
Blackhawk is a gated community built in phases: the first opened in 1979 and the last were finished in the early 1990s, planned at about 2,400 homes around two 18-hole golf courses. The community borders Mount Diablo State Park, which received more than 2,000 acres of the original ranch.
Large houses of this era are typically wood-framed with stucco exteriors, tile roofs, high entry ceilings and several separate attic sections. On a slope they often spread over two or three levels. Original low-voltage wiring from the 1980s is usually phone and coaxial cable, not Ethernet. Pools, outdoor kitchens and sport courts push the area that needs coverage well beyond the walls.
Blackhawk Ranch was established in 1917. Developer Ken Behring bought 6,200 acres in 1975, cut the plan to about 2,400 homes after opposition, and more than 2,000 acres went to Mount Diablo State Park.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Very large homes need a designed network
At several thousand square feet, coverage has to be planned room by room. We place wired access points on each level and wing, all managed from one small rack.
1980s wiring is rarely ready for Ethernet
The original cabling rarely supports a modern network. We pull new Cat6 through the attic sections and wall cavities, and reuse existing pathways where they are open.
Pools, outdoor kitchens and sport courts
Outdoor living areas sit far from any indoor access point. We mount outdoor units on the house or a pool structure, wired back in conduit, and add cameras where you want them.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Blackhawk
What does a network for a large Blackhawk home involve?
Planning it room by room. At several thousand square feet, a house needs wired access points on each level and wing, all managed from one small rack. It starts with a free two-minute online estimate, then a visit or call to plan the layout.
Can the original 1980s wiring in my Blackhawk house be reused?
Rarely as it is. Original low-voltage wiring from that decade is usually phone and coaxial cable, not Ethernet. We pull new Cat6 through the attic sections and wall cavities, and reuse the existing pathways where they are open, which keeps new openings down.
How do I cover the pool, outdoor kitchen and sport court?
With outdoor access points. Those areas sit far from any indoor unit, and stucco exteriors hold the signal in. We mount weatherproof access points on the house or a pool structure, wire them back in conduit, and can add cameras where you want them.
