Homes in Burlingame
Burlingame filled in early. Lots sold by the hundreds after the 1906 earthquake, and the older neighborhoods still show it. Easton Addition was the separate town of Easton until it was annexed in 1910, Burlingame Park and Lyon Hoag are among the city's fourteen named neighborhoods, and Willborough, in Burlingame Terrace, is a block of Tudor revival homes begun in the 1920s.
Houses of that age were typically finished in lath and plaster inside and stucco outside, usually over a crawl space and under a steep roof with limited attic room. Up the hill, the steep streets of Mills Estate hold about 100 Eichlers built in 1963 and 1964.
Burlingame incorporated in 1908, two years after the San Francisco earthquake sent hundreds of families down the Peninsula to buy lots here. The neighboring town of Easton was annexed in 1910.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Plaster and stucco walls soak up Wi-Fi
Prewar plaster and wire-backed stucco absorb signal far more than modern drywall. Instead of pushing one router harder, we put wired access points in the rooms that need them, fed through the crawl space or attic.
Finished older homes deserve careful cable work
Original trim, plaster and hardwood floors are often the reason people buy an older house. We fish Cat6 through existing cavities and closets, and choose mounting spots that leave period details alone.
Mills Estate Eichlers have nowhere to hide cable
Eichlers typically pair slab floors with open-beam ceilings, which rules out the usual attic route. For these houses we plan short exterior runs in conduit and use in-wall access points that sit flat against the wall.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Burlingame
Why does Wi-Fi struggle in older Burlingame houses with plaster walls?
Because prewar plaster and wire-backed stucco absorb signal far more than modern drywall. Pushing one router harder does not fix that. We put wired access points in the rooms that need them, fed through the crawl space or attic where the house has one.
Can you add Ethernet to a Tudor revival home without damaging it?
In most cases, yes. We fish Cat6 through existing cavities and closets and choose mounting spots that leave trim, plaster and hardwood floors alone. The aim is hardwired access points with as little visible work as possible.
How do you wire a Mills Estate Eichler with no attic?
Eichlers typically pair slab floors with open-beam ceilings, so the usual attic route is out. We plan short exterior runs in conduit and use in-wall access points that sit flat against the wall instead of hanging from the ceiling.
