Homes in Foster City
Everything in Foster City was built from the 1960s on, on engineered fill over Brewer Island. The first resident moved in during 1964. The founders deliberately used several builders, so the early neighborhoods mix conventional tract houses, custom homes along the lagoons, and more than 200 Eichlers, built from 1963 to 1968 and scattered through three of the earliest neighborhoods.
Apartments and condominiums fill in around them. The Eichlers, with their exposed beams and walls of glass, were designed specially for the new town and sit a block or a few at a time among other builders' houses. On lagoon lots, yards and patios tend to face the water, so outdoor space is a big part of how those homes are used.
T. Jack Foster's company filled Brewer Island in the 1960s to build a planned city around a 218-acre lagoon system. The first resident arrived in 1964 and the city incorporated in 1971.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Eichler roofs leave no attic for cable
With exposed beams overhead and glass on the walls, an Eichler offers no hidden route. We plan short exterior runs in conduit and in-wall access points, keeping hardware off the open ceilings.
Lagoon-facing patios sit outside indoor coverage
Homes on the lagoon tend to face the water, and indoor Wi-Fi fades at the patio door. A weatherproof outdoor access point wired to the house covers the yard right down to the water's edge.
Condos have neighbors on every side
Shared walls mean shared interference. We place wired access points inside your own unit, turn power down to fit the space, and select channels around the networks next door.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Foster City
Can you run cable in a Foster City Eichler?
Yes, though not the usual way. With exposed beams overhead and glass on the walls, an Eichler offers no hidden route. We plan short exterior runs in conduit and use in-wall access points, keeping hardware off the open ceilings.
Why does my Wi-Fi cut out on the patio by the lagoon?
Indoor Wi-Fi tends to fade at the patio door, and homes on the lagoon face the water. A weatherproof outdoor access point wired back to the house covers the yard down to the water's edge without relying on signal through the glass.
How do you deal with interference in a Foster City condo?
Shared walls mean shared interference, so more power is not the answer. We place wired access points inside your own unit, turn the power down to fit the space, and select channels around the networks next door.
