Homes in Kentfield
Kentfield is unincorporated, sitting at the base of Mount Tamalpais between Larkspur and Ross, with both level ground and slopes. Kent Woodlands, developed by the Kent family, climbs the mountain toward Phoenix Lake. Well-known architects worked there: Wurster, Bernardi and Emmons built the Kelso house on Vineyard Way in 1952 and 1953.
So Kent Woodlands tends toward custom houses rather than tracts, each laid out differently, often on more than one level, and many with views of the bay and the mountain. Lots are usually large and heavily planted, helped by some of the highest rainfall in the county. The Kentfield area also takes in the unincorporated part of Greenbrae, the postwar community the Schultz Building Company began in 1946.
Albert Emmett Kent bought the land from the Ross estate in 1871. The railroad stop became Kent in the 1890s and Kentfield when the post office opened in 1905, and the Kent family went on to develop Kent Woodlands.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Custom houses have no standard cable route
Custom houses are each framed differently, and some have vaulted ceilings with no attic. We survey before settling on a layout, and use in-wall access points and short conduit runs where ceilings are closed.
Large parcels put gates far from the router
A gate camera at the street can be a long way from the house. We run buried cable out to it, or set up a point-to-point bridge when the driveway makes trenching impractical.
Architect-designed rooms deserve hidden wiring
In a house by a known mid-century architect, hardware in the wrong place stands out. We choose low-profile access points, fit their placement to the room, and keep every cable concealed.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Kentfield
How do you plan a network for a custom Kent Woodlands house?
We start with a survey rather than a standard layout. Custom houses are each framed differently, and some have vaulted ceilings with no attic. Where ceilings are closed, we use in-wall access points and short conduit runs.
Can you put a camera at my front gate if it is far from the house?
Yes. On a large parcel the gate can be a long way from the router, well past Wi-Fi range. We run buried cable out to the camera, or set up a point-to-point wireless bridge when the driveway makes trenching impractical.
Will access points look out of place in an architect-designed Kentfield home?
They should not. In a house by a known mid-century architect, hardware in the wrong spot stands out. We choose low-profile access points, fit their placement to each room, and keep every cable concealed.
