Homes in Larkspur

Larkspur was laid out in 1887, and its oldest houses sit close to Magnolia Avenue and up Madrone Canyon, where homes share the ground with redwoods along Larkspur Creek. The downtown is a National Register historic district, and many houses near it are a century old or close to it, often with small rooms, later additions and lots that rise from the street.

Greenbrae is the other half. Starting in 1946 the Schultz Building Company turned 635 acres of farmland into more than 1,000 houses and about 1,500 apartments, set back from the street among preserved oaks. Those are mostly mid-century houses, usually with wider floor plans, plus multi-unit buildings where neighbors share walls and ceilings.

Charles W. Wright laid out Larkspur in 1887, and the city incorporated in 1908. After World War II, Niels Schultz and his son built Greenbrae on 635 acres bought in 1946, adding more than a thousand homes.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Canyon cottages were not built for wiring

A century-old house in Madrone Canyon has no cable chases and often a low crawl space. We plan each run before drilling and place access points where the additions meet the original rooms.

Greenbrae apartments share walls and crowded airwaves

With neighbors on the other side of the wall, dozens of networks compete for the same channels. We wire an access point inside your unit and tune channels and power so it stays clear of the noise.

Wide mid-century floor plans need a second access point

In a Greenbrae house the router often lands at one end, by the garage. We pull Cat6 to a second and sometimes third ceiling access point so bedrooms at the far end get full speed.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Larkspur

Can you wire access points in an old Madrone Canyon cottage?

Yes, with planning. A century-old house has no cable chases and often only a low crawl space, plus additions built at different times. We plan every run before drilling, and place access points where the additions meet the original rooms.

Why is my Wi-Fi slow in a Greenbrae apartment with good internet?

Usually interference. With neighbors on the other side of shared walls and ceilings, dozens of networks compete for the same channels. We wire an access point inside your unit and tune its channels and power so it stays clear of that noise.

Where should the access points go in a wide mid-century Greenbrae house?

It depends on the floor plan, but rarely at one end. The router often lands by the garage, far from the bedrooms. We pull Cat6 to a second and sometimes third ceiling access point so the far end of the house gets full speed.
