Homes in Corte Madera

Corte Madera has two kinds of housing, divided by elevation. Christmas Tree Hill was cut into tiny lots and sold to San Francisco weekenders who camped there or put up tent cabins. The houses that replaced them sit on narrow, steep parcels, added onto over the decades and often stacked on two or three levels.

The flats are postwar. Marina Village was the first development after World War II, built on drained and filled marsh for returning veterans, and the first phase of Madera Gardens followed in the early 1950s on diked former tidelands. These are mostly tract houses on level, filled ground. Mariner Cove followed from the late 1950s on filled marsh beside San Clemente Creek. Older buildings cluster near Old Corte Madera Square.

The North Pacific Coast Railroad came through by 1875 and the town incorporated in 1916. After the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, the population grew from 1,098 in 1940 to 5,962 in 1960 as marshland was filled for housing.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Hill houses grew in stages, room by room

A cabin that became a three-level house has odd wall cavities and no single cable path. We survey first, then wire an access point per level so the lowest bedrooms get the same signal as the kitchen.

Tract homes on the flats suit attic runs

On the flats, a pitched roof over one floor usually leaves enough attic to pull Cat6 to the middle of the house. We mount ceiling access points there instead of relying on a router in the garage.

Yards and decks on the water need coverage

When the house backs onto the water, the deck is where people spend the evening. We add a weather-rated outdoor access point on the back wall, wired and powered over a single cable.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Corte Madera

Why is one router not enough for a house on Christmas Tree Hill?

Most hill houses grew from small cabins, added onto over decades and often stacked on two or three levels. That leaves odd wall cavities and floors between you and the router. We survey the house first, then wire an access point on each level.

Can you run Ethernet through the attic of a Madera Gardens tract house?

Usually, yes. A pitched roof over one floor often leaves enough attic to pull Cat6 to the middle of the house, though we check before promising a route. From there we mount ceiling access points where you use the network, rather than relying on a router in the garage.

Can I get a strong signal on a deck that backs onto the water?

Yes. Indoor Wi-Fi rarely carries well through the back wall, and the deck is often where the evening is spent. We add a weather-rated outdoor access point on the back of the house, wired and powered over a single cable from inside.
