Homes in Point Reyes Station

Point Reyes Station is a small village that grew around a narrow-gauge railroad depot opened in 1875. Within five years it had a hotel, saloons, a blacksmith and a livery stable. Its best-known buildings date from the railroad years: the Emporium, the creamery, and the brick Grandi Building of 1915, once a hotel with a dance hall upstairs. Houses in the village tend to be small and older.

Outside the village the land is agricultural, with dairy and organic farms where a main house, barns and other buildings are often spread across the property. The county voted in 2019 to buy a former Coast Guard site of 36 townhomes on 32 acres, to become affordable housing run by the local community land trust.

The North Pacific Coast Railroad arrived in 1875 at a stop first called Olema Station. The narrow-gauge line ran until 1933, and the depot and creamery buildings it left behind still shape the town.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Barns and outbuildings spread across a ranch

A ranch office, a barn and a second house may sit hundreds of feet apart. We connect them with buried or overhead cable where possible, and point-to-point wireless bridges where the distance or terrain rules that out.

Small older village houses need one good run

A compact house does not need much equipment, only the right placement. We run Cat6 under the floor or through the attic to one or two access points in the middle of the house.

Shops in railroad-era brick and timber buildings

Heavy old walls block signal between rooms. For small businesses we wire an access point in each space, tidy the cabling into a small rack, and set up a separate guest network.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Point Reyes Station

Can you link a barn and a second house on a ranch near Point Reyes Station?

Yes. Ranch buildings may sit hundreds of feet apart, too far for Wi-Fi from the main house. We connect them with buried or overhead cable where possible, and point-to-point wireless bridges where the distance or terrain rules that out.

What does a small house in the village need for good Wi-Fi?

Usually not much, as long as it is placed well. A compact older house can often be covered by one or two access points in the middle. We run Cat6 under the floor or through the attic, whichever the house offers.

Can you set up Wi-Fi for a shop in an old brick building?

Yes. Heavy old walls block signal between rooms, so one router at the front rarely serves the back. For small businesses we wire an access point in each space, tidy the cabling into a small rack, and set up a separate guest network.
