Homes in Stinson Beach
Stinson Beach began as Willow Camp, a tent settlement among the willows, and its older housing tends to be small in scale. After the 1906 earthquake, refugees from San Francisco settled here and started the first businesses. Neighborhoods today include the Calles and the Patios, near the beach. Beach houses like these are often used on weekends and stand empty in between.
Seadrift, the gated community on the sandspit, holds about half of Stinson Beach's home sites: roughly 350 lots, laid out 60 feet wide. Marin County approved the first oceanfront subdivision in 1951, and two more followed by 1966, including a man-made lagoon. Houses there face the ocean on one side of the spit or the lagoon on the other.
Nathan Stinson bought land here in 1866, and the tent resort called Willow Camp took the name Stinson Beach in 1916. William Kent bought the sandspit in 1901, and his family's estate company began subdividing it as Seadrift in 1951.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Salt air is hard on outdoor equipment
Anything mounted outside a beach house weathers faster than it would inland. We use weather-rated outdoor access points and sealed connections, and keep as much of the cable run indoors as the house allows.
Cameras and a guest network for time away
When a house sits empty during the week and fills with visitors on Saturday, the network has two jobs. We install security cameras and set up separate guest and smart-home networks alongside your own.
Seadrift houses have water on two sides
An ocean deck in front, the lagoon behind, and the router somewhere in the middle. We wire an outdoor access point for each side so your coverage does not stop at the sliding door.
Around Stinson Beach
- Stinson Beach: The beach passed to Marin County in 1939 and the state in 1950, and the National Park Service has managed it since 1977.
- Dipsea Race finish: The Dipsea Race, the second-oldest footrace in the United States, finishes in Stinson Beach each June.
- Seadrift Lagoon: The artificial lagoon was created as part of Seadrift's later subdivisions, which were in place by 1966.
Questions about Wi-Fi in Stinson Beach
Will outdoor Wi-Fi equipment last at a Stinson Beach house?
It lasts longer when it is chosen for the coast. Anything mounted outside a beach house weathers faster than it would inland. We use weather-rated outdoor access points and sealed connections, and keep as much of the cable run indoors as the house allows.
Can I keep cameras running at a beach house that sits empty midweek?
Yes. A house used mostly on weekends needs a network that works unattended and then handles a crowd. We install security cameras and set up separate guest and smart-home networks alongside your own, so visitors stay off the devices that watch the house.
How do you cover both the ocean deck and the lagoon side in Seadrift?
With an outdoor access point on each side. Seadrift houses face the ocean one way or the lagoon the other, and a router in the middle rarely reaches past the sliding doors. Each outdoor unit is wired back to the house.
