Homes in Bodega Bay

Bodega Bay is a fishing village of about 900 residents along Highway 1 and the harbor. It is still a working fishing port, and houses in the older part of town are typically modest and wood-framed. The best-known residential area is Bodega Harbour, a homeowners' community built around a golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II, with ocean views from every hole.

Coastal houses like these are often designed around the view and the weather. Many have wood siding, big ocean-facing windows, vaulted ceilings with little or no attic, and floor plans that step down the slope on two or three levels. Salt air and steady wind are hard on anything mounted outside, which matters for cable and outdoor equipment.

Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra explored the bay in 1775, and Russians built here in 1809. The fishing village became a visitor destination after Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, released in 1963, was filmed on location.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Vaulted ceilings leave no attic for cable

Where the roof framing is exposed, there is often nowhere overhead to hide a run. We use in-wall access points and short exterior runs in conduit, kept on the sheltered side of the house.

Coastal decks need sheltered outdoor access points

Deck coverage on the coast needs careful placement. We mount outdoor access points under the eaves where possible, run the cable in conduit, and keep exterior runs as short as the house allows.

A house left empty still needs steady Wi-Fi

If the house sits empty for weeks, cameras and smart-home devices still need a reliable connection. We wire the access points, set up separate guest and smart-home networks, and tune everything before we leave.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Bodega Bay

Where can cable go in a Bodega Bay house with vaulted ceilings?

Usually on the outside, kept short. Where the roof framing is exposed there is often nowhere overhead to hide a run. We use in-wall access points and short exterior runs in conduit, kept on the sheltered side of the house.

Will an outdoor access point hold up on a coastal deck?

Placement matters most, because salt air and steady wind are hard on anything mounted outside. We mount outdoor access points under the eaves where possible, run the cable in conduit, and keep exterior runs as short as the house allows.

Can my cameras stay online when my Bodega Bay house is empty?

That is what a wired setup is for. Cameras and smart-home devices need a reliable connection while you are away. We wire the access points, set up separate guest and smart-home networks, and tune everything before we leave.
