Homes in Guerneville

Guerneville started as a logging town among the redwoods and became a vacation town. Once the railroad arrived in 1877, the area grew popular with San Francisco vacationers, and resorts stayed busy into the 1950s and 1960s. Older houses and cabins here are typically small and wood-framed, often added onto over the decades, and many sit on wooded lots with little flat ground.

The river sets the other rule. In 1986 the Russian River set a record of nearly 49 feet at Guerneville, and in 2019 it crested above 45 feet, far over its 32-foot flood stage, and every road into town was under water. Houses in the flood zone are often raised well off the ground.

Named for sawmill owner George Guerne and once called Stumptown for its logged redwoods, the town was reached by rail in 1877 and turned from lumber to summer resorts along the Russian River.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Flood-zone houses need cable kept above high water

Where a house is raised above flood level, cable underneath is exposed to weather and high water. We run Cat6 in conduit, keep the network gear on the living level, and bring lines up through the floor to each access point.

Small wood-framed houses with no attic to use

Small older houses often have open-beam ceilings and solid wood walls, which leave few hidden paths. We use short exterior conduit runs and in-wall access points, placed so the house and its additions are all covered.

Decks and river frontage need outdoor coverage

Tall trees and a sloping lot swallow indoor signal before it reaches the deck or the water. We mount outdoor access points on wired runs to cover the places people actually gather.

  • Russian River: The river runs past the town and has drawn summer visitors since the railroad arrived in 1877.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Guerneville

How do you run cable in a raised house in Guerneville?

Carefully, because cable under a raised house is exposed to weather and high water. We run Cat6 in conduit, keep the network gear on the living level, and bring lines up through the floor to each access point.

Can you install wired Wi-Fi in a small cabin with open beams?

Yes. Small older houses often have open-beam ceilings and solid wood walls, so there are few hidden paths for cable. We use short exterior conduit runs and in-wall access points, placed so the house and its additions are all covered.

Why doesn't my Wi-Fi reach the deck on my river property?

Tall trees and a sloping lot swallow indoor signal before it gets outside. We mount outdoor access points on wired runs, so the deck and the area by the water have their own coverage rather than leftovers from indoors.
