Homes in Union City
Union City grew out of two older communities, Alvarado and Decoto, both former railroad hubs with active rail lines still running through them. Tract housing came after the two joined. Holiday Park was among the first tract developments, and others such as West View Estates and Casa Verde started in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Tract houses of those years usually have an attached garage and attic space above, and often a stucco exterior. Many are two stories, which puts bedrooms a floor away from wherever the internet comes in. The newest part of town is the Station District beside BART, which is being redeveloped on land once occupied by the Pacific States Steel Company.
Union City incorporated in 1959 by joining Alvarado and Decoto, both old railroad towns that neighboring cities had wanted to annex. Alvarado had been Alameda County's first county seat in 1853.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Two-story tract homes with stucco walls
Stucco over wire mesh keeps Wi-Fi inside, and a downstairs router often leaves the upper floor patchy. We cable through the attic to upstairs access points and add an outdoor unit for the yard.
Townhome and condo complexes share walls
Attached homes pick up a lot of interference from the units on either side. We keep access points on wire, lower their power to fit your rooms, and choose channels your neighbors are not using.
Older houses with additions the wiring never reached
Older houses have often been added onto over the years, with rooms the original wiring never reached. We run new Cat6 through the crawl space or attic and cover additions and garages properly.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Union City
Why is my upstairs Wi-Fi patchy in a Union City tract house?
Two things usually combine. Many of these houses are two stories, which puts bedrooms a floor away from the router, and stucco over wire mesh holds signal in. We cable through the attic to upstairs access points and add an outdoor unit for the yard.
Can you fix slow Wi-Fi in a townhome with shared walls?
Usually, yes. Attached homes pick up a lot of interference from the units on either side. We keep access points on wire, lower their power to fit your rooms, and choose channels your neighbors are not using.
How do you get Wi-Fi into a room added onto an older house?
By running new cable to it. Older houses have often been added onto over the years, with rooms the original wiring never reached. We run Cat6 through the crawl space or attic where we can and cover additions and garages properly.
