Homes in Hayward
Much of Hayward was built after the Second World War. Oliver Rousseau and David Bohannon, two pioneers of tract housing, were prominent builders in the area, and the original development at Fairway Park in South Hayward goes back to the 1950s. Tract houses of that period are usually compact and single-story, often with a low attic and a garage at the front.
The hills are a different picture. The university campus and the TPC Stonebrae golf club are both up there, and hillside houses tend to be larger and spread over two or more levels. Hayward also has mobile home parks, including in the Tennyson-Alquire neighborhood, and BART stations downtown and in South Hayward.
Hayward incorporated in 1876 and was long known for its canneries. Tract builders were busy here after the war, a state college opened in the hills in 1957, and BART service began in 1972.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Compact tract homes with converted garages
Many postwar houses have gained a garage conversion or a rear addition that the original router never reaches. We run cable through the attic and place an access point in the added space.
Mobile homes have metal that blocks Wi-Fi
Many manufactured homes have metal siding or roofing, which keeps signal from passing in or out. We put a wired access point inside the home and a second one outdoors if you want coverage on the porch.
Hayward hillside homes often need coverage on each level
On a slope, one floor usually has good Wi-Fi and the others struggle. We wire an access point on each level, reusing structured wiring in newer homes once every run has been tested.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Hayward
Why is Wi-Fi weak inside my Hayward mobile home?
Metal is the likely reason. Many manufactured homes have metal siding or roofing, which keeps signal from passing in or out. We put a wired access point inside the home, and a second one outdoors if you want coverage on the porch.
Can you get Wi-Fi into a converted garage on a tract house?
Yes. Many postwar houses have gained a garage conversion or a rear addition that the original router never reaches. Where the house has an attic we run cable through it and place an access point in the added space.
How do you cover a Hayward hills home on several levels?
One level at a time. On a slope, one floor usually has good Wi-Fi and the others struggle. We wire an access point on each level, and in newer homes we reuse structured wiring once every run has been tested.
