Homes in Windsor

Windsor's housing is among the newest in the county. Population growth sped up about fivefold in the 1980s as building spread north from Santa Rosa, and the town did not incorporate until 1992. Subdivisions from those years are mostly one and two-story tract houses, usually with attics and attached garages, and some of the later ones have low-voltage wiring panels.

The center of town was redeveloped around the Town Green, which opened in 2001. The mixed-use development around it was laid out as a walkable village, and by 2006 it held more than 130 condominiums and 50 businesses. Attached homes like these share walls with the neighbors on either side.

The railroad came through in 1872, but Windsor stayed a small farm town until growth spilled north from Santa Rosa in the 1980s. It incorporated in 1992, and voters approved an urban growth boundary in 1998.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Check the wiring panel before buying mesh

Some 1990s and 2000s homes here have cable running to a panel in a closet or garage. We test each run, and if it passes we use it to feed wired access points.

Condos around the Town Green share crowded airwaves

In a downtown condo you have shared walls and dozens of neighboring networks. We use in-wall access points on short cable runs, and tune channels and power to keep your connection steady.

Backyards and patios need their own outdoor coverage

Indoor access points rarely reach the far end of a yard. We mount an outdoor access point on a wired run, usually under the eaves, so the patio and the rest of the yard get full coverage.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Windsor

Should I buy a mesh kit for my Windsor tract home?

Check the wiring panel first. Some of the later subdivisions here have low-voltage cable running to a panel in a closet or garage. We test each run, and if it passes we use it to feed wired access points, which hold up better than wireless hops.

Why is Wi-Fi unreliable in my condo near the Town Green?

Usually it is crowding. Attached homes share walls, so dozens of neighboring networks overlap with yours. We use in-wall access points on short cable runs, then tune channels and power to keep your connection steady.

Can you extend Wi-Fi to my backyard and patio?

Yes. Indoor access points rarely reach the far end of a yard. We mount an outdoor access point on a wired run, usually under the eaves, so the patio and the rest of the yard get full coverage.
