Homes in Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay began as a farming outpost and was known as Spanishtown until 1874. Several of its older buildings, including the James Johnston House and the Methodist Episcopal Church, are on the National Register. Houses of that age tend to be small and have often been added onto over the years.
Real growth came after World War II, when suburban subdivisions arrived, and most houses date from then or later. The city limits run north to Frenchman's Creek and Miramar Beach, with Pillar Point Harbor at the far north edge. A 2022 study counted more than 123 buildings in the city as vulnerable to sea level rise, and fog and salt air tend to reach anything mounted outdoors.
Known as Spanishtown until 1874, the town saw the Ocean Shore Railroad arrive in 1907 and fold by 1920. Real growth came with postwar subdivisions, and Half Moon Bay incorporated in 1959.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Ocean air corrodes anything mounted outside
Anything mounted outside near the ocean corrodes faster. We use outdoor-rated access points and cable, seal the connections, and keep as much of each run as possible inside the building.
Older cottages near downtown have been added onto
A cottage with a rear addition often has two attics and two crawl spaces that do not connect. We map a cable path between them and place wired access points in both halves.
Barns and outbuildings on larger rural parcels
Where a rural property outside the neighborhoods has a barn or workshop, it can be far from the house. We link it with buried cable, or a point-to-point wireless bridge where trenching is not practical.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Half Moon Bay
Will outdoor Wi-Fi equipment hold up in Half Moon Bay's salt air?
It can, if it is chosen and installed for it. Anything mounted outside near the ocean corrodes faster. We use outdoor-rated access points and cable, seal the connections, and keep as much of each run as possible inside the building.
Can you wire an older Half Moon Bay house that has been added onto?
Usually. A house with a rear addition often has two attics and two crawl spaces that do not connect. We map a cable path between them and place wired access points in both halves, so the addition is not left on weak signal.
How do I get Wi-Fi out to a barn on a rural coastside property?
We link the barn to the house rather than stretching Wi-Fi to it. Buried cable is the first choice. Where trenching is not practical, a point-to-point wireless bridge carries the connection, and an access point in the barn provides coverage there.
