Homes in Pacifica
Pacifica is nine separate communities that merged in 1957, and each still has its own housing. Sharp Park is the old one, with ties to the Ocean Shore Railroad days and a mix of converted summer cottages and newer custom houses. Linda Mar, the largest residential area, is mostly tract homes built in the fifties and sixties.
Fairmont was built mostly by developer Henry Doelger, Pacific Manor is largely developer-built from the late forties and early fifties, and Park Pacifica added large homes in the seventies. Vallemar, Rockaway Beach and Pedro Point are among the other districts. Houses on slopes are often built on two or more levels, and near the ocean, fog, wind and salt work on anything mounted outdoors.
Pacifica incorporated in 1957 by joining nine unincorporated coastal communities, some of them former stops on the Ocean Shore Railroad. Tract builders filled Linda Mar during the fifties and sixties.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Converted summer cottages have improvised layouts
Many Sharp Park homes began as summer cottages and were often expanded room by room. We find a workable path through the patchwork of attics and crawl spaces and wire access points where coverage is actually needed.
Ocean air corrodes outdoor gear
Salt and fog shorten the life of exposed connectors. We use outdoor-rated access points, sealed terminations and protected cable paths, and keep equipment under the eaves when we can.
Bedrooms down the hall in Linda Mar
A single-story house with the bedrooms down a long hallway leaves the far rooms weak. Cat6 through the attic to one or two ceiling access points evens out the coverage.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Pacifica
Can you run cable through a converted Sharp Park cottage?
Usually, with some detective work. Many Sharp Park homes began as summer cottages and were often expanded room by room. We find a workable path through the patchwork of attics and crawl spaces and wire access points where coverage is needed.
How long does outdoor network gear last near the ocean in Pacifica?
It depends on how it is installed. Salt and fog shorten the life of exposed connectors, so we use outdoor-rated access points, sealed terminations and protected cable paths, and keep equipment under the eaves when we can.
Why is Wi-Fi weak in the far bedrooms of my Linda Mar house?
A single-story house with the bedrooms down a long hallway leaves the far rooms a long way from the router. We run Cat6 through the attic, where the house has one, to one or two ceiling access points that even out the coverage.
