Homes in Suisun City

Most of Suisun City was built in a hurry. The population went from under 2,500 in 1960 to more than 11,000 by 1980, and tract houses from those years still make up a large part of the city. Homes of that era are often one or two stories with an attached garage, usually with an attic over the top floor.

Old Town, beside the Suisun Channel, is the exception. Beginning in 1989 the city rebuilt its waterfront, adding a public marina and clearing a four-block area of fourplexes. In its place came Victorian Harbor, about 300 single-family homes styled after period houses, with front porches and narrow streets. Homes there tend to sit close together.

Established in the 1850s as a Gold Rush shipping point, Suisun City incorporated in 1868, the year the railroad arrived. Interstate 80 brought suburban growth in the 1960s and 1970s, and waterfront redevelopment began in 1989.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Narrow streets and close neighbors at Victorian Harbor

Houses built close together mean many overlapping networks. We wire an access point on each floor at modest power and set channels so yours isn't competing with the whole block.

1970s tract houses and the upstairs bedrooms

A router by the television downstairs leaves the second floor weak. We pull Cat6 up into the attic and mount ceiling access points upstairs, powered over the cable, with no extra power outlets needed.

Mesh kits that never quite fixed it

Wireless mesh units repeat a weak signal and halve the speed doing it. We replace them with hardwired access points, then tune roaming so phones and laptops move between them cleanly.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Suisun City

Why is Wi-Fi unreliable in my Victorian Harbor home?

Often because of crowding. Homes there tend to sit close together, so many networks overlap and compete. We wire an access point on each floor at modest power and set the channels so yours isn't competing with the whole block.

How do I fix weak Wi-Fi upstairs in a 1970s Suisun City tract house?

Put a wired access point upstairs. A router by the television downstairs leaves the second floor weak. These homes usually have an attic over the top floor, and where it is accessible we pull Cat6 into it and mount ceiling access points powered over the cable.

Should I replace my mesh system with wired access points?

Usually, if the mesh never quite solved it. Wireless mesh units repeat a weak signal and lose speed doing it. We replace them with hardwired access points, then tune roaming so phones and laptops move between them cleanly.
