Homes in Vallejo

Vallejo's oldest neighborhoods grew up alongside the shipyard at Mare Island. The Architectural Heritage District, once called the Old City district, has houses mostly from 1860 to 1890 in what has become known as the Working Man's Victorian style, and St. Vincent's Hill adds 542 contributing buildings ranging from Italianate and Queen Anne to Craftsman and Art Deco. Houses of that age usually have plaster walls and raised foundations, and some have been divided into flats.

During World War I the federal government added more than 400 houses next to the shipyard. Later growth spread outward: Glen Cove, on the southeastern edge near the Carquinez Strait, has detached homes from the 1970s onward, and Hiddenbrooke, in the northern hills, is a master-planned community of roughly 1,200 homes around a golf course. Mare Island itself now has new neighborhoods, starting with the 277-home Farragut Village.

Vallejo was founded in 1851, briefly served as state capital, and incorporated in 1868. Mare Island Naval Shipyard, established in 1854 and closed in 1996, shaped nearly every neighborhood built in between.

What that means for your Wi-Fi

Old houses that have been split into flats

When an old house is split into units, each one needs its own coverage and the walls are plaster. We cable through the crawl space and attic to a wired access point per floor.

Hillside subdivisions with homes on several levels

Hillside floor plans often stack two or three levels, with the garage at the top or bottom. We put an access point on each level and outdoor units on the decks that face the view.

Small older houses with little attic or crawl space

Small older houses often have shallow roof space and tight crawl spaces. Where we can't get through, we plan short exterior runs in conduit to in-wall access points.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Vallejo

Can each flat in a divided Vallejo Victorian get its own Wi-Fi coverage?

Yes. When an old house is split into units, each one needs its own coverage, and the plaster walls don't help. We cable through the crawl space and attic, where accessible, to a wired access point on each floor.

Why does my Hiddenbrooke house have good Wi-Fi on only one level?

Because hillside floor plans often stack two or three levels, and one router can't push through all of them. We put an access point on each level and add outdoor units on the decks if you want coverage there.

What if my older Vallejo house has no attic or crawl space to run cable?

We plan around it. Small older houses often have shallow roof space and tight crawl spaces. Where we can't get through, we plan short exterior runs in conduit and use in-wall access points, so you still get wired coverage.
