Homes in Fairfield
Fairfield stretches along Interstate 80, and its age changes as you move west. Central and north Fairfield, around downtown and the civic center, is the older grid: smaller lots and older houses, many built before 1978 and often single-story. They tend to have low attics and a single cable entry at the garage or a front bedroom.
The west side is the newer half. Cordelia is suburban tract housing with three to five bedrooms, often two stories. Rancho Solano is a partly gated golf-course community of custom and semi-custom homes, and Green Valley has larger parcels near its country club. Out in Suisun Valley, properties become semi-rural, with acreage and outbuildings.
Clipper ship captain Robert Waterman founded Fairfield in 1856, and it became the Solano County seat in 1858. It incorporated in 1903, and the air base that opened in 1942, now Travis, brought a population boom.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Larger west-side houses outgrow a single router
Four or five bedrooms over two floors is more than one router or a wireless mesh kit handles well. We replace the hops with wired ceiling access points on each floor, fed through the attic.
Central Fairfield houses built before home networks
Older tract houses have no data wiring at all. We run Cat6 through the attic to one or two ceiling access points and tidy the modem, router and switch into one spot.
Acreage and outbuildings in Suisun Valley
On rural parcels the barn, shop or second dwelling sits well beyond Wi-Fi range. We link buildings with buried cable or a point-to-point wireless bridge and add cameras where you want them.

Questions about Wi-Fi in Fairfield
Why does my mesh kit struggle in a Cordelia or Rancho Solano house?
Because four or five bedrooms over two floors is a lot for wireless hops to carry, and each hop loses speed. We replace the mesh units with wired ceiling access points on each floor, typically fed through the attic, and tune roaming between them.
Can you wire an older central Fairfield house that has no Ethernet?
Yes. Older tract houses around downtown usually have no data wiring at all. They tend to have low attics, and where we can get in we run Cat6 to one or two ceiling access points and tidy the modem, router and switch into one spot.
How do you connect a barn or second dwelling on a Suisun Valley property?
By linking the buildings directly. On rural parcels the barn, shop or second dwelling sits well beyond Wi-Fi range. We use buried cable, or a point-to-point wireless bridge when trenching isn't practical, and can add security cameras where you want them.
