Homes in Tiburon
Tiburon was a railroad and ferry terminal before it was a suburb. Its first subdivision was Lyford's Hygeia, the tract Dr. Benjamin Lyford laid out along the bay in the late 1800s, with Spanish street names such as Vistazo and Solano. Houses from the railroad decades tend to be smaller and closer to the water than what came later.
Most of the town came later. After World War II the Reed family's land was developed into neighborhoods including Bel Aire, Belveron Gardens, Hawthorne Terrace, Del Mar and Reed Heights. These are largely mid-century houses, many on sloping lots, often with a main floor at street level and another below. Point Tiburon, completed in 1985 on the former rail yard, added housing and shops beside downtown.
Peter Donahue brought the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad to Point Tiburon in the 1880s, with ferries to San Francisco. The town incorporated in 1964, trains ran until 1967, and the rail yard became the Point Tiburon development in 1985.
What that means for your Wi-Fi
Mid-century houses built around the view
Homes turned toward the bay often have long window walls and few interior walls to mount on. We use ceiling access points fed from the attic where there is one, and in-wall units where there is not.
Attached homes downtown share crowded Wi-Fi channels
Where homes are attached, your neighbors' networks often overlap yours. We wire an access point inside the unit, reuse existing Ethernet after testing each run, and set channels to stay clear of the crowd.
Lower floors on sloping lots go quiet
A downstairs family room gets little from a router on the floor above. We run cable down through a closet or the crawl space and give that level its own access point.

- Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum: The museum documents the rail and ferry terminal that shaped the town and operated here until 1967.
- Blackie's Pasture: The park honors a swaybacked horse who stood in the same pasture for 28 years, with a statue added in 1995.
Questions about Wi-Fi in Tiburon
Where do access points go in a Tiburon house that is mostly windows?
It depends on what is above the ceiling. Mid-century homes turned toward the bay often have long window walls and few interior walls to mount on. We use ceiling access points fed from the attic where there is one, and in-wall units where there is not.
Why is the Wi-Fi poor in my attached home near downtown Tiburon?
Often because your neighbors' networks overlap yours on the same channels. We wire an access point inside the unit, test and reuse any existing Ethernet, and set channels so your network stays clear of the crowd.
How do you fix a dead downstairs on a sloping lot?
By giving that level its own wired access point. Many houses here have a main floor at street level and another below, and a family room downstairs gets little from a router above. We run cable down through a closet or the crawl space.
